1/25/10: ACCION Comes Full Circle in Brazil:  ACCION has received the green light from the Brazilian government to establish ACCION Microfinanças, a new microfinance organization in the state of Amazonas, Brazil. It was in Brazil where ACCION first pioneered microfinance in 1973. The MFI will apply new approaches and innovations in microfinance to best serve the area's poor. Learn more

1/13/10: Earthquake Devastates Haiti: ACCION is deeply saddened by the tragic news of a large earthquake which hit Haiti yesterday afternoon. ACCION works with Haitian partner SOGESOL to bring microfinance services to the country’s self-employed poor. ACCION’s Resident Advisor in Haiti to SOGESOL is reported to be ok, however further details about the event and its impact on SOGESOL’s staff and clients are sparse at the moment. We will continue to provide updates as soon as we have them. Haiti is the Western Hemisphere’s poorest nation with 85% of its population living below the poverty line. Click here to read more about ACCION’s work in Haiti 

1/13/10: ACCION Receives $5.8 Million Gates Grant to Roll Out Savings Programs in South America: As part of the Gates Foundation's Financial Services for the Poor Initiative, ACCION will leverage the grant money to work with microfinance institutions in Bolivia, Colombia and Ecuador to reach more than a million poor clients with savings products in five years. Click here to read more
