May 24 – 26, 2017
Hosted by the Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan and the Royal Institute for Governance and Strategic Studies, with support from the International Finance Corporation, managaing director Elisabeth Rhyne has been invited to the inaugural Bhutan Economic Forum for Innovative Transformation (BEFIT) and its International Financial Inclusion Summit. She will be sharing her expertise in financial inclusion policy, microfinance and small and medium enterprise development, per Summit’s theme, “equitable growth through financial inclusion.”
BEFIT is being introduced as a forum to bring together a wide range of expertise to share best practices and discuss innovative solutions to emerging national and regional economic challenges, with the overarching objective of transforming and bettering the lives of Bhutan’s 800,000 citizens. Bhutan’s national tagline, “Happiness is a Place,” is based on its commitment to Gross National Happiness as an alternative way to measure the success of government policy.
The International Financial Inclusion Summit will bring together policy makers, regulators and representatives from the private sector to foster a dialogue on how to enhance access to finance, with a focus on financing micro, small and medium enterprises. The summit will also provide a platform for Bhutanese policy makers, regulators, service providers and local government representatives to share their experiences and learn from global best practices. The summit is expected to assist Bhutanese authorities in drafting a national financial inclusion strategy to serve as the roadmap for Bhutan’s financial inclusion activities.
