Since joining CFI in 2018, Alex plays a key role in increasing the awareness and impact of the Smart Campaign in the financial services industry, beyond microfinance institutions. She serves as an ambassador for the Campaign, cultivating relationships with key industry players, participating in different speaking and media engagements, and developing Smart Campaign content and communications.
Alex’s background blends journalism and communications experience with research on financial inclusion. In her prior role as a strategic communications consultant at Protagonist, she advised clients from government agencies, foundations, and the private sector on marketing and outreach strategies informed by big data analysis. She also worked as a reporter and editor for The Daily Star newspaper in Beirut, Lebanon, covering Middle East politics and Lebanese civil society and culture. More recently she led projects examining the barriers to entrepreneurship in the Middle East for the Wamda Research Lab, and analyzed Rwanda’s regulatory environment for financial inclusion for the Economist Intelligence Unit.
Alex has a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from The Fletcher School at Tufts University as well as a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Tufts.
