John Lwande

Program Director, Africa Board Fellowship

John is responsible for the overall direction and successful execution of the Center’s Africa Board Fellowship program, where he directs strategy, leads recruitment and is responsible for managing relationships with faculty, advisors and fellows.

He has more than 25 years of experience in microfinance management, banking and credit. Prior to joining Accion, he was seconded by Accion to Akiba Commercial Bank in Tanzania as managing director, from 2008 to 2015. During this time he also served as board chairman of Umojaswitch. John has extensive experience in governance, having served on numerous boards throughout his career.

He holds a bachelor’s in political economy from Makerere University, and has earned numerous certificates in management training and executive leadership. He lives with his family in Nairobi, Kenya.
