Tanwi Kumari

Manager, South and Southeast Asia, The Smart Campaign

Tanwi leads projects for the Smart Campaign in the South and South East Asia Region. She manages the external relationships with consultants and funders in the Region. She manages projects ensuring effective implementation of all the activities that are part of the theory of change including, training, assessments, certification. Currently she manages assessor and certifier accreditation process in the Region. She is key resource for IFC and DFID project and also for supporting Smart Campaign expand its standards to Digital Financial Services with the Banking Correspondents in India.

Tanwi joined Accion in the year 2007 and has worked on multiple assignments in Accion’s Global Programs department, providing technical assistance to Accion partners in setting up business verticals for Individual Lending, product development and market research, institutionalizing audit function and also instructional design for the middle and senior managers. Prior to working at Accion, Ms. Kumari worked at IFMR, Chennai on MFI appraisal, consulted for start-ups, and developed market linkages for low-income clients. She has published many articles in the field of microfinance and social development.

Ms. Kumari holds a bachelor’s degree in agricultural sciences from G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, and an MBA from Xavier Institute of Management, India. She is also an accredited trainer for the ILO “Making Microfinance Work – Managing for Improved Performance” management course.
